TUSK IC is a fabless millimeter-wave (mmWave) IC design company based in Antwerp, Belgium. Founded in 2018 as a KU Leuven spin-off, we’ve built a strong reputation for solving the toughest RF and semiconductor challenges in automotive, industrial, and communications markets.

We’re now entering a new and pivotal phase: developing our own product line of Ka-band chips and modules for satellite communications (SatCom). Our focus is on next-generation user terminals for global satellite connectivity — a market on the verge of explosive growth. “New Space” is fueling a wide range of business and investment opportunities, with communications emerging as the biggest growth market, and at the heart of strategic autonomy discussions.

At TUSK IC, we believe in technical excellence and customer impact. We build trust through results. If you want to be part of a team where ambition and execution go hand in hand, you’ll feel at home!

Job description

As Hardware Design Engineer you will own the design, bring-up, and validation of high-performance PCBs and hardware platforms around our satcom products. You will play a key role in delivering customer- and partner-facing hardware, where exceptional quality, reliability, and attention to detail are essential to showcase our technology in a realistic RF system context. Your work will directly represent our technology in the field, requiring a strong commitment to excellence from initial prototypes through final production-ready systems.

In this role, you’ll translate our product capabilities into real-world systems: evaluation boards, reference designs, and product-grade hardware that enables our customers and partners to adopt our technology. You will become a core member of our team and clear communication during team interactions is essential.

Responsibilities and challenges

  • Design complex RF PCBs for evaluation boards, prototypes, products and demonstrators
  • Define system architectures and use cases for demos and eval boards aligned with target customer applications
  • Own schematic capture, component selection, stack-up definition, layout constraints, and design reviews
  • Work closely with IC, packaging and antenna design teams to define pinouts, interfaces, and reference designs
  • Bring up, debug, and validate demonstrator platforms in the lab, including firmware/configuration where needed
  • Support the development of measurement setups, test scripts, and validation procedures for evaluation kits
  • Define and maintain PCB design guidelines, reference designs, and reusable design blocks
  • Work with external manufacturing partners to ensure DFM/DFT and smooth production ramps
  • Support prototyping, pilot builds, and transitions to volume manufacturing
  • Create high-quality documentation: BOMs, test procedures, user guides, and application notes
  • Collaborate with supply chain and manufacturing partners to resolve manufacturability, sourcing, and yield issues

Competences and qualifications

  • BSc (Hons) or higher degree (MSc/PhD) in electrical engineering with a focus on PCB and application design
  • Track record of designing and delivering product grade PCB boards.
  • Strong experience designing complex multilayer RF PCBs
  • Hands-on experience designing and bringing up RF demonstrators, evaluation boards, or reference designs
  • Comfortable owning hardware from concept through bring-up and iteration
  • Familiarity with DFM/DFT, PCB fabrication processes, and assembly constraints
  • Versatile skill set and flexible to learn and help where needed
  • Ability to write clear application notes, user guides, and design recommendations
  • Clear communication skills
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken)

What we offer

  • A dynamic and fast-growing scale-up environment where your impact is visible from day one
  • Hybrid working with up to 3 days of remote work per week
  • A beautiful Art Nouveau office in Antwerp, conveniently located near Berchem train station
  • The chance to contribute to truly next-generation satellite communication products used in the real world
  • Competitive salary package with attractive benefits
  • A smart, kind, international and ambitious team you’ll learn from — and enjoy working with
  • Gourmet coffee, carefully selected by our local coffee aficionado
  • Budget for learning and development (courses, conferences, books)
